Publication Ethics

The publication ethics of Aufklarung: Jurnal Pendidikan, Sosial dan Humaniora generally refers to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines.

This statement of scientific ethical codes applies to all parties involved in the publication process of this journal, including journal managers, editors, reviewers, and authors. This ethical policy is based on the Regulation of the Head of LIPI No. 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications, which upholds three core ethical values:

  • Neutrality – Free from conflicts of interest in publication management.
  • Fairness – Granting authorship rights to those who are entitled to be recognized as authors.
  • Honesty – Free from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism (DF2P) in publication.

Duties and Responsibilities of Journal Managers

  • Establish the journal’s title, scope, periodicity, and accreditation if necessary.
  • Determine the composition of the editorial board.
  • Define the relationships among publishers, editors, reviewers, and other parties in a formal agreement.
  • Respect confidentiality for contributing researchers, authors, editors, and reviewers.
  • Enforce norms and regulations related to intellectual property rights, especially copyright.
  • Review journal policies and communicate them to authors, the editorial board, reviewers, and readers.
  • Develop a code of conduct for editors and reviewers.
  • Ensure regular publication of the journal.
  • Secure funding sources to sustain journal publication.
  • Build cooperation networks and marketing strategies.
  • Prepare permits and other legal aspects.

Duties and Responsibilities of Editors

  • Balance the needs of readers and authors.
  • Strive for continuous improvement of publication quality.
  • Implement processes to ensure the quality of published manuscripts.
  • Promote academic freedom and objective expression.
  • Maintain the integrity of the authors’ academic record.
  • Provide corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when necessary.
  • Be responsible for the writing style and formatting, while authors are responsible for content and statements.
  • Actively seek input from authors, readers, reviewers, and the editorial board to improve publication quality.
  • Encourage necessary evaluations when issues are found in the journal.
  • Support initiatives to educate researchers about publication ethics.
  • Assess how publication policies affect authors’ and reviewers’ attitudes and make improvements to reduce errors.
  • Be open-minded to new opinions or different perspectives.
  • Avoid defending personal views or the views of authors or third parties that may result in biased decisions.
  • Encourage authors to revise manuscripts until they meet publication standards.

Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers

  • Review manuscripts assigned by editors and submit evaluations as a basis for determining publication eligibility.
  • Avoid reviewing manuscripts that involve personal interest, directly or indirectly.
  • Maintain author confidentiality by not disseminating comments, suggestions, or recommendations.
  • Provide constructive criticism, input, and recommendations.
  • Encourage authors to revise manuscripts when needed.
  • Reassess revised manuscripts based on established standards.
  • Conduct the review process on time and in accordance with journal guidelines and scientific standards (data collection methods, author legitimacy, conclusions, etc.).

Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

  • Ensure that all individuals listed as authors meet authorship criteria.
  • Hold collective responsibility for the work and its content, including methods, analysis, calculations, and details.
  • Disclose sources of funding and resources, whether directly or indirectly.
  • Explain the limitations of the research.
  • Respond to reviewer comments professionally and promptly.
  • Inform the editor if withdrawing the manuscript.
  • Declare that the submitted manuscript is original, unpublished in any language, and not under consideration by another publisher.
